Director of Research

Job Summary

Leading the strategic research function for Protege's DataLab, the full-time Director of Research will define the research agenda, manage a high-performing team, and ensure that research efforts inform product direction and customer strategy in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead the research strategy, aligning experimentation with company priorities
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and GTM teams to identify high-value research opportunities
• Design and oversee experiments evaluating dataset quality and model performance

Required qualifications

• Experience leading impactful research initiatives in AI or machine learning
• Proven track record of building and managing high-performing research teams
• Experience in applied technical settings, partnering with customers or external stakeholders
• Strong ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable insights
• Familiarity with modern AI systems and privacy-centric data methodologies
