Director of Research, Text to Speech
Job Summary
Owning the Text-to-Speech program end to end, the full-time remote Director of Research, Text to Speech will manage the research strategy, technical direction, and model development while leading a team to advance the state of the art in speech generation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the TTS research and model roadmap, determining impactful technical directions and adjusting strategies as needed
- Drive advancements in neural audio modeling, prosody, multilingual speech, and other key areas to achieve measurable production gains
- Lead a team of researchers and tech leads, fostering technical excellence and setting strategic direction across sub-teams
Required Qualifications
- Deep expertise in modern TTS, speech generation, or audio generative modeling with a proven track record
- Strong command of the speech-generation stack and understanding of challenges related to naturalness and expressiveness
- Experience in setting research direction and managing resources under uncertainty
- Proven leadership experience with researchers and technical teams, including developing tech leads
- AI as a core operational focus, with a clear understanding of its limitations in speech research
