Director of Tax Strategy

Job Summary

Leading the tax function, the full-time remote Director of Tax Strategy will set the strategic direction for indirect tax matters globally, manage a tax team, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to modernize tax technology and processes.

Key responsibilities

• Own the company's global indirect tax strategy, prioritizing initiatives in partnership with Finance and Legal leadership
• Build and develop a tax team while establishing standards and workflows as the function scales
• Design and implement indirect tax processes tailored for a marketplace model, ensuring compliance and accuracy across jurisdictions

Required qualifications

• Extensive experience in indirect tax leadership, preferably in a two-sided marketplace or platform business
• Hands-on technical proficiency with Avalara and similar tax engines
• Big 4 accounting experience at the Senior Manager level or equivalent experience in a top law firm
• Experience building training and enablement for non-tax-expert audiences in collaboration with Finance and Legal
• Strong instincts for audit preparedness and experience in developing documentation and processes for audits
