Job Summary
Leading the Bank's commercial underwriting function, the full-time salaried Director of Underwriting will oversee a team of Credit Managers, ensuring high-quality credit decisions across SBA, Commercial Real Estate (CRE), and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending while collaborating with various departments to support profitable loan growth and maintain credit risk management standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Credit Managers, establishing departmental goals and performance expectations
- Direct the underwriting and credit approval process for SBA, CRE, and C&I lending opportunities, ensuring consistency in underwriting quality
- Partner with the Deputy Chief Credit Officer to monitor portfolio quality and recommend enhancements to underwriting standards and credit policies
Required qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial banking credit underwriting experience, with significant exposure to SBA, CRE, and C&I lending
- At least 5 years of leadership experience managing commercial underwriting or credit teams
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field required; MBA preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in analyzing complex commercial credit relationships and understanding commercial banking regulations
- Formal commercial credit training and relevant professional certifications are preferred
