Director of Underwriting
Job Summary
Leading the Bank's commercial underwriting function, the full-time salaried Director of Underwriting will oversee a team of Credit Managers, ensuring high-quality credit decisions across SBA, Commercial Real Estate (CRE), and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending while collaborating with various departments to support profitable loan growth and maintain credit risk management standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Credit Managers to maintain consistency in underwriting practices and credit decision-making
- Direct the underwriting and credit approval process for SBA, CRE, and C&I lending opportunities, ensuring quality and documentation standards are met
- Partner with the Deputy Chief Credit Officer to monitor portfolio quality and recommend enhancements to underwriting standards and credit policies
Required qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial banking credit underwriting experience, including significant experience with SBA, CRE, and C&I lending
- At least 5 years of leadership experience managing commercial underwriting or credit teams
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field required
- Expert knowledge of commercial credit underwriting principles and related lending requirements
- Formal commercial credit training through a recognized banking or financial services program is preferred
