Director of Underwriting Operations

Job Summary

Leading the day-to-day operations of merchant boarding, underwriting, and risk management, the full-time remote Director of Underwriting Operations will modernize processes through automation and analytics while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance policies and workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee a team focused on payments and lending applications, enhancing the boarding journey through AI-driven processes
• Partner with various departments to improve technology stacks and implement automation for underwriting materials
• Manage ongoing merchant monitoring and establish risk controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in payments risk or financial services operations, with 3+ years in a leadership role
• Deep knowledge of merchant underwriting processes, including KYB/KYC and chargeback economics
• Proven experience in modernizing boarding processes with automated decisioning and vendor orchestration
• Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in SQL and familiarity with portfolio data analysis
• Pragmatic approach to automation and AI, with the ability to identify relevant use cases for operational improvement
