Embedded Software Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Embedded Software Engineer, preferably located within driving distance to a Ciena office, who will design and maintain embedded Linux firmware for OpenWrt-based Optical Network Unit (ONU) systems, ensuring reliable production-quality software that enhances system performance and security in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and maintain embedded Linux firmware for ONU systems
• Implement PON subsystem software, including XGS-PON registration and OMCI agent functionality
• Develop U-Boot bootloader extensions and execute code reviews, testing, and debugging

Required qualifications:

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
• 3+ years of experience in embedded software or firmware development
• Proficiency in C and C++ programming for embedded systems
• Experience with embedded Linux, including kernel drivers and cross-compilation
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including Ethernet and VLANs
