Emergency Medicine Coding Specialist

Job Summary

To support the coding team, the full-time Emergency Medicine Coding Specialist will examine medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT service codes while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Examines medical records to determine proper ICD and CPT codes for assigned services
• Maintains coding accuracy and productivity rates of 95% while participating in ongoing education and training
• Communicates with coworkers and physicians to resolve documentation discrepancies and coding questions

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a Coding Program and eligibility to sit for coding credentials (CCS, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P) within 12 months of employment
• Less than 24 months of experience in emergency department professional coding
• Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding guidelines and payer regulations
• Proficiency in using personal computers in a Windows environment for data entry and documentation
