Job Summary
Responsible for assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to patient charts of moderate to high complexity, the full-time Remote Outpatient Acute Care Coder - Emergency will ensure accurate coding, billing, and compliance using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
Key responsibilities
- Review hospital outpatient medical documentation to assign and validate appropriate codes for outpatient encounters
- Utilize 3M encoder to analyze coding edits and Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC) for compliance with medical necessity
- Assign Physician E/M levels and charges for relevant procedures performed in various settings
Required qualifications
- One to three years of experience in medical record coding in an acute care setting
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree in Health Information or related field is preferred
- AHIMA or AAPC certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CIRCC, or COC is required
- Functional knowledge of EMR systems and coding software, particularly 3M360
- Comprehensive understanding of coding guidelines and regulations, including UHDDS and CCI Edits
