Engineering Manager, Maps & Search

Job Summary

Leading a high-performing team, the full-time remote Engineering Manager, Maps & Search will manage the home search experience across web and mobile, drive the architecture of a high-throughput search platform, and contribute directly to code and design reviews while leveraging AI in the development process.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Maps & Search team, focusing on hiring, onboarding, coaching, and career development
• Contribute to code and design reviews, ensuring technical excellence in architecture and debugging
• Own and scale a search platform handling approximately 1 billion monthly requests, enhancing the home discovery experience

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a management role
• Experience with search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React
• Experience designing scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments, preferably AWS
• Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems, and databases such as PostgreSQL and OpenSearch
