Engineering Manager (Ruby on Rails)

Job Summary

Seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager (Ruby on Rails) to lead a backend-focused squad in a full-time, fully remote role based in the EU, responsible for driving technical quality, mentoring team members, and actively contributing to architecture and code development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a backend-focused squad, ensuring high technical quality and team wellbeing
• Contribute to the Ruby on Rails codebase through architecture decisions, code reviews, and complex feature development
• Design scalable and maintainable backend systems while collaborating with product managers to translate roadmap priorities into technical plans

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including 2-3 years in an engineering management or technical lead role
• Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and backend system architecture
• Experience designing and evolving backend systems at scale
• Familiarity with AI tools and their application in software development
• Effective asynchronous communication skills for collaboration with distributed teams
