Job Summary
To support the Great Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office, the full-time Environmental Scientist will provide technical assistance for Protected Species recovery efforts, ESA Section 7 Consultation support, and NEPA preparation, while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance for ESA Section 7 consultations, including developing biological assessments and coordinating with federal partners
- Support stranding and disentanglement programs by conducting data entry, audits, and stakeholder engagement related to marine mammals and sea turtles
- Assist in the preparation and review of NEPA documents to support NMFS activities and recovery planning for protected species
Required qualifications:
- Possess a degree (bachelor's or master's) in environmental science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Experience with ESA and MMPA regulations and consultation processes
- Familiarity with marine mammal and sea turtle conservation efforts
- Ability to conduct literature reviews and prepare technical reports
- Proficiency in data management and analysis related to environmental science
