Job Summary

Serving as the in-house ERISA expert, the full-time remote ERISA Counsel will provide legal guidance on ERISA, IRC, and fiduciary obligations for a 401(k) recordkeeping platform, supporting internal teams and product development with actionable insights and compliance advice.

Key responsibilities
  • Act as the primary legal advisor for customer-facing teams, offering real-time guidance on ERISA-related inquiries and compliance issues
  • Collaborate with the product team to ensure new features align with ERISA and IRC requirements, providing expert insights during product development
  • Stay updated on legislative and regulatory changes affecting qualified retirement plans and draft internal policies and guidance for consistent application of ERISA requirements
Required qualifications
  • 5-8 years of substantive ERISA experience focused on qualified retirement plans and fiduciary matters, including at least two years at a law firm
  • Demonstrated experience with qualified plan operational compliance and ERISA fiduciary duty rules
  • Strong working knowledge of ERISA and IRC qualification rules applicable to 401(k) plans
  • Experience advising non-legal business teams on ERISA issues in real time
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing, or authorized to practice law in any state
