EU Public Affairs Director

Job Summary

Leading Shopify's EU Government Affairs work, the full-time salaried EU Public Affairs Director will develop and execute public policy strategies, build influential relationships across EU institutions, and advocate for issues critical to the business and its merchants while working remotely from Brussels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute Shopify's EU government affairs and public policy strategy, ensuring alignment with legislative debates
• Serve as Shopify's primary representative in Brussels, engaging with the European Commission, Parliament, and other stakeholders
• Lead initiatives on priority policy areas affecting Shopify and its merchants, including digital trade, privacy, and platform regulation

Required qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory advocacy, particularly in tech policy or ecommerce
• Deep understanding of EU institutions and established networks within the European Commission and Parliament
• Proven track record of delivering high-impact EU policy and advocacy outcomes
• Strong data literacy and ability to use analytics to support advocacy efforts
• Experience building relationships and coalitions across government, industry, and civil society
