Job Summary

Seeking an Expert Afrikaans Transcriber for a remote, part-time position, responsible for converting audio recordings of native speakers into precise written transcripts while applying expert linguistic judgment and adhering to project-specific style guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Transcribe audio recordings into accurate, time-aligned written text following project-specific style guidelines
• Make principled orthographic decisions for dialectal and code-switched speech, and flag ambiguous segments and audio quality issues
• Self-review submissions against quality standards and engage with QA reviewers on calibration and style guide updates

Required qualifications

• Native fluency in Afrikaans with lifelong residence or deep immersion in South Africa or Namibia
• Mastery of standard Afrikaans orthography and ability to distinguish Afrikaans from Dutch in mixed audio
• At least two years of professional transcription, captioning, or linguistic annotation experience
• Demonstrated accuracy at the word level under deadline pressure
• Reliable high-speed internet, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace
