Expert Cloud Engineer

Job Summary

Serving as a hands-on technical authority, the remote Expert Cloud Engineer will lead the design and implementation of a cloud-native, event-driven platform for the Department of Veterans Affairs, focusing on AWS cloud engineering, microservices architecture, and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Define target cloud architecture and engineering standards for mission-critical platform capabilities
• Lead the implementation of Kafka/MSK-based event bus systems and secure WebSocket streaming capabilities
• Establish enterprise event-processing patterns and oversee CI/CD and infrastructure automation practices

Required qualifications

• 10-12 years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, or related roles
• Expert-level AWS cloud engineering experience with secure and scalable production platforms
• Deep hands-on expertise with Kafka or AWS MSK and event-driven systems
• Advanced experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
