Financial Advocate
Job Summary
To support a growing healthcare environment, the full-time Financial Advocate will educate patients on their financial responsibilities, calculate personalized cost estimates based on insurance coverage, and assist uninsured patients in identifying and applying for financial assistance programs, primarily working in a hybrid remote setting with occasional onsite meetings in the Greater Charlotte or Wake Forest region.
Key responsibilities
- Calculates and communicates patient financial estimates, including deductibles and copayments, prior to services
- Interviews uninsured patients to assess financial needs and coordinates applications for assistance programs
- Stays informed on insurance benefits and government funding regulations, ensuring compliance with internal policies
Required qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent (GED/HSED)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Patient Access, healthcare, insurance, or customer service
- Basic knowledge of medical coding and insurance billing processes
- Understanding of HIPAA and EMTALA regulations as they relate to patient interactions
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare providers regarding financial responsibilities
