Forward Deployed Engineer
Job Summary
Embedding with customers to deploy Smallstep's device identity platform, the full-time Forward Deployed Engineer will diagnose technical failures, act as a technical escalation point, and ship production Golang code while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnosing and resolving technical failures that block deployments
- Acting as the technical escalation point for Technical Account Managers and Customer Success Engineers
- Shipping production Golang code to address root causes uncovered during deployment debugging
Required qualifications
- Experience debugging distributed, multi-service cloud architectures in live customer environments
- Production experience with certificate-based authentication, VPNs, enterprise Wi-Fi/EAP-TLS, RADIUS, SSH, and OAuth
- Proficiency in developing and shipping production Golang code
- Experience troubleshooting TLS/mTLS at the protocol level
- Prior experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as a forward deployed engineer or solutions engineer
