Job Summary
To support the fishing industry, the full-time Gear Liaison Specialist will create and test gear modifications on commercial fishing vessels, communicate operational aspects of fishing gear, and assist in evaluating gear testing while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in field studies and data analysis to mitigate bycatch of sea turtles and marine mammals
- Collaborate with regional gear teams on projects aimed at reducing bycatch in various fisheries
- Provide outreach and demonstrations for fishermen on implementing protected species gear modifications
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science or a related discipline
- Two additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a relevant degree
- Experience in field studies and data analysis related to marine biology or conservation
- Knowledge of fishing gear and its operational aspects
- Familiarity with bycatch mitigation strategies and compliance monitoring
