General Counsel

Job Summary

A company is looking for a General Counsel to serve as the chief legal advisor on all legal matters impacting the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal counsel on legal and regulatory matters
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including IRS requirements
• Advise on governance best practices and oversee contracts and external counsel

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• 10-15 years of progressive legal experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
• Strong understanding of nonprofit law, employment law, and advocacy regulations
• Experience supervising outside counsel and/or junior attorneys
• Proven negotiation skills and familiarity with laws governing charitable giving
