General Counsel (JD Required)

Job Summary

A company is looking for a General Counsel to serve as the chief legal advisor on all legal matters impacting the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal counsel on legal and regulatory matters to the Executive Director and management team
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations while managing legal risks
• Advise on governance best practices and oversee contracts and external counsel relationships

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• 10-15 years of progressive legal experience, including 5 years in a senior leadership role
• Strong understanding of nonprofit and tax-exempt law, employment law, and advocacy-related laws
• Experience supervising outside counsel and/or junior attorneys
• Proven negotiation skills and familiarity with laws governing charitable giving
