Job Summary
Supporting the National Centers for Environmental Prediction, the full-time Global Models Post-Processing Scientific Support Specialist will develop, maintain, and enhance atmospheric post-processed products from global Earth System Models, while collaborating with NOAA scientists and external partners in a remote work environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support for post-processing and atmospheric product generation using the Unified Post Processor (UPP) framework
- Develop software for global models post-processing aligned with the NWS probabilistic IDSS roadmap
- Engage with NWS/NCEP/EMC and external domain scientists and engineers to communicate scientific results
Required qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, mathematics, or a related physical science
- Experience with model output from deterministic and ensemble-based global Earth System Models
- Proficiency in a high-performance supercomputer UNIX environment with advanced scripting languages such as Python
- Strong knowledge of computing languages including Fortran, C, and C++
- Familiarity with meteorological data formats such as BUFR, NetCDF, HDF, and GRIB
