Job Summary
Working remotely on a contract basis, the Grant Writer Contractor will support the development and submission of grant proposals to philanthropic funders, managing proposal timelines and collaborating with internal stakeholders while setting their own schedule.
Key responsibilities
- Build a funding pipeline for DataKind's US Communities work and recommend new philanthropic funding opportunities
- Synthesize complex programmatic and technical information into clear, compelling narratives tailored to funders' interests
- Draft, edit, and finalize grant proposals and supporting materials, ensuring submissions are completed accurately and on time
Required qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in the nonprofit, social impact, or technology sectors
- Demonstrated success in securing significant grants from philanthropic sources, including multi-year commitments of $500,000 or greater
- Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, particularly in translating complex AI and civic tech concepts into persuasive narratives
- Proven track record of securing grants from competitive RFPs
