Greenhouse Gas Policy Consultant

Job Summary

To support a new initiative integrating atmospheric measurements of methane into national greenhouse gas inventories, the remote independent contractor Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Policy Consultant will develop and implement national-level case studies, focusing on translating these measurements for 3-5 countries while ensuring compliance with the UNFCCC transparency framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement national-level case studies demonstrating the integration of atmospheric methane measurements into greenhouse gas inventories
• Engage with country points of contact responsible for compiling inventories and collaborate with the UNFCCC inventories program
• Identify and strategize the integration of atmospheric measurements into national greenhouse gas inventories for selected countries

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with national greenhouse gas inventories and IPCC inventory methodologies
• Deep understanding of the UNFCCC transparency framework, including Biennial Transparency Reports and Nationally Determined Contributions
• Knowledge of atmospheric methane observations, atmospheric inversion modeling, or emissions verification
• Background in methane emissions accounting across sectors such as energy, agriculture, or waste
• Experience working with government agencies, inventory compilers, or international climate initiatives
