Job Summary

To support federal biomedical research initiatives, the full-time Healthcare Ontologist will develop and maintain biomedical ontologies, assist with clinical data standards, and ensure interoperability while working remotely.

Key responsibilities
  • Own and execute analytical and technical tasks with minimal supervision, contributing to team discussions on methodology and standards
  • Develop, curate, and maintain biomedical ontologies and controlled vocabulary resources, ensuring semantic consistency across data domains
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Bioinformatics teams to integrate ontology resources into data pipelines and provide training on controlled vocabularies
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in health informatics, biomedical informatics, clinical research, public health, biology, computer science, data science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant professional or research experience in health informatics or biomedical ontologies
  • Demonstrated experience developing or curating biomedical ontologies in a research or federal health IT context
  • Working knowledge of major biomedical ontologies and controlled vocabularies such as NCIt, SNOMED CT, and LOINC
  • Familiarity with semantic web technologies (OWL, RDF) and experience with terminology server platforms preferred
