Job Summary
Leading advanced hydrologic modeling initiatives, the full-time remote Hydrologist will design, test, and implement forecasting systems while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure operational effectiveness.
Key responsibilities
- Spearhead the design and operational deployment of hydrologic models and forecasting techniques
- Serve as the primary liaison between researchers, management, and clients, aligning research capabilities with operational needs
- Oversee the integration of new modeling systems into forecasting frameworks, ensuring reliability for public safety forecasts
Required qualifications
- Ph.D. in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related discipline with 3+ years of experience; or a Master's Degree with 7+ years of specialized experience in operational hydrology
- Deep technical proficiency with operational forecasting systems and hydrologic modeling suites
- Expert-level programming skills in Python and R, along with data management capabilities for large-scale datasets
- Proven leadership experience managing complex technical projects and stakeholder relationships
- Extensive experience with hydrologic ensemble forecast services and risk-based decision support tools
