Job Summary
To enhance clinical documentation accuracy, the full-time Illinois Licensed Clinical Documentation Specialist will perform concurrent reviews of clinical and coding data, educate healthcare team members, and collaborate with coding professionals to ensure precise DRG assignments and documentation compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Completes initial and follow-up reviews of patient records to assign principal and secondary diagnoses for accurate DRG assignment
- Queries physicians for clarification on documentation and educates them on clinical documentation improvement standards
- Collaborates with coding professionals to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate diagnostic and procedural data
Required qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program, PA, NP, or medical school, or an Associate's degree with CCDS certification
- Two years of experience in an acute care setting or relevant field
- Certification as a Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or relevant professional license (e.g., RN, PA)
- Knowledge of coding guidelines, clinical documentation standards, and healthcare economics
- Ability to conduct independent research related to clinical topics and documentation practices
