Inpatient Coder
Job Summary
Working remotely, the HIM Inpatient Coder will code and abstract medical records for inpatients, assign ICD-10CM/PCS codes, and determine diagnosis-related groupings (DRGs) while following established conventions and guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Code and abstract medical records of inpatients according to established guidelines
- Assign ICD-10CM/PCS codes to diagnoses and procedures based on medical record reviews
- Group codes to determine diagnosis-related groupings (DRGs-CMS and/or APR)
Required qualifications
- Formal working knowledge equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years of college)
- Knowledge of medical coding conventions and guidelines
- Experience in coding inpatient medical records
- Familiarity with ICD-10CM/PCS coding systems
- Understanding of diagnosis-related groupings (DRGs)
