Inpatient Coder II

Job Summary

Working remotely or onsite in select states, the full-time Inpatient Coder II will code and abstract inpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement, and research, ensuring adherence to quality and productivity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Code and enter diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated coding system using the 3M encoder
• Meet quality and productivity coding standards while navigating an electronic medical record (EMR) system
• Demonstrate competency in inpatient coding guidelines and DRG assignment across all facilities

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required; Associate Degree preferred
• A minimum of 4 years coding experience in an inpatient acute care setting or 2 years with successful completion of the organization's internal coding program
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credentials required or must be certified within one year of hire
• Intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and coding modifiers
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience working in a remote environment preferred
