Job Summary
Working remotely or onsite in select states, the full-time Inpatient Coder II will code and abstract inpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement, and research, ensuring adherence to quality and productivity standards.
Key responsibilities
- Code and enter diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated coding system using the 3M encoder
- Meet quality and productivity coding standards while navigating an electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Demonstrate competency in inpatient coding guidelines and DRG assignment across all facilities
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required; Associate Degree preferred
- A minimum of 4 years coding experience in an inpatient acute care setting or 2 years with successful completion of the organization's internal coding program
- Current AHIMA or AAPC credentials required or must be certified within one year of hire
- Intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and coding modifiers
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience working in a remote environment preferred
