Inpatient Coder - RHIT Required

Job Summary

Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the Inpatient Coder - RHIT Required will analyze and code diagnostic and procedural information from medical records to ensure accurate billing and compliance with established guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Thoroughly review patient medical records to identify diagnostic and operative procedures for database compilation
• Assign diagnostic and procedural codes using encoder software in accordance with coding principles and guidelines
• Complete discharge abstracts by gathering and coding pertinent patient stay data while ensuring the accuracy of the electronic medical record

Required qualifications

• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Administrator (RHIA), CCS Certified Coding Specialist, or CCA Certified Coding Associate
• Degree in Medical Record Sciences preferred or completion of a relevant certification program
• Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems
• Prior coding experience preferred but not required
• Certification eligibility for RHIT or RHIA must be obtained within six months of employment
