Job Summary
Reviewing and analyzing medical records, the full-time Inpatient Coding Specialist will assign diagnoses and procedure codes while adhering to ethical coding standards in a remote setting.
Key responsibilities
- Review and analyze documentation in medical records for accurate coding of inpatient and outpatient services
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes based on physician documentation
- Adhere to official coding guidelines and standards set by the American Health Information Management Association
Required qualifications
- High school diploma required; A.S. or B.S. in Health Information Technology or Management preferred
- Minimum of 3 years coding experience in an acute care inpatient/outpatient hospital setting
- Certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CIRCC required or to be completed within 6 months of employment
- Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems
- Experience with MS-DRG's, APC's, MPFS/RVU's, POA's, and HAC's relevant to coding
