Job Summary
To support a growing healthcare team, the full-time remote Inpatient Medical Coder will review inpatient medical record documentation for accuracy, validate diagnoses and procedures, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Review and accurately code primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions
- Evaluate diagnosis and procedure sequencing for compliance with official coding guidelines and payer requirements
- Conduct clinical validation reviews and document findings related to coding discrepancies and reimbursement risks
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care inpatient coding or related healthcare documentation
- Active certification such as CCS, CCA, or CDIP (AHIMA); CPMA, CRC, CIC, or CDEI (AAPC); or CCDS (ACDIS)
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding
- Strong knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG reimbursement methodology
