Job Summary
To support accurate reimbursement and compliance, the full-time remote Inpatient Medical Coder will be responsible for retrospective coding of inpatient medical records, applying ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, and collaborating with clinical teams to ensure adherence to coding guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Assign diagnosis and procedural codes to inpatient medical records for accurate reimbursement and regulatory compliance
- Utilize computer-assisted coding tools to ensure accurate code assignment and resolve coding edits
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Integrity specialists and other partners to clarify documentation and support denial prevention efforts
Required qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required
- Credentialed as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- A minimum of two years of inpatient hospital coding experience, including ICD-10-CM/PCS code assignment and DRG assignment
- Preferred four to six years of inpatient coding experience
