Job Summary
Reviewing inpatient medical records for accuracy and compliance, the full-time remote Inpatient Medical Coder will evaluate diagnoses and procedures, ensuring adherence to coding guidelines and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities
- Review and accurately code primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 conventions
- Validate MS-DRG assignments and assess clinical documentation to support appropriate reimbursement and compliance
- Conduct audits to identify coding discrepancies and communicate findings related to reimbursement risks and admission status issues
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care inpatient coding or related healthcare documentation
- Active certification such as CCS, CCA, or CDIP (AHIMA), or CPMA, CRC, CIC, or CDEI (AAPC)
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines
- Strong knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG reimbursement methodology
