Inpatient Medical Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding of complex inpatient acute care discharges, the full-time Inpatient Medical Coder will utilize technical expertise to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes while collaborating with clinical documentation teams in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to complex inpatient visit types based on health record documentation
• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement teams to ensure accurate coding and reporting of diagnoses and procedures
• Educate stakeholders on regulatory guidelines and coding conventions to maintain compliance and accuracy in coding practices

Required qualifications

• Minimum of three years' experience in inpatient coding within an Academic Medical Center
• Current CCS, CIC, RHIA, or RHIT certification
• Proficient in using coding software and resources, such as 3M 360 CAC
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
• Excellent organizational skills and understanding of Standard Operating Procedures
