Job Summary
Working remotely on a part-time basis, the Inpatient Medical Coder II will assign appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures based on physician documentation, ensuring accurate reimbursement and maintaining a coding accuracy rate of 95% or better.
Key responsibilities
- Assigns and sequences codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 classification systems
- Enters coded information into the Medical Center's database and analyzes groupings for accurate reimbursement
- Maintains professional skills through ongoing education and assists in training new personnel in coding procedures
Required qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Health Information, Medical Records, or a similar program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years of inpatient coding experience in a Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Facility
- Inpatient CCS, RHIT, or RHIA credentials from AHIMA are required
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CPT-4 coding conventions
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
