Kong API Gateway Engineer

Job Summary

Supporting the IRS Enterprise API Gateway Modernization and Operations effort, the full-time Kong API Gateway Surge Engineer will deliver product-specific configuration support for Kong, assist with accelerated API migration preparation and testing, and facilitate CI/CD integration in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Delivers engineering support for Kong configuration, including plugins, routing, and developer portal setup
• Supports API migration wave preparation, test execution, defect resolution, and rollback validation
• Facilitates CI/CD integration and observability monitoring for the API gateway within Government-owned environments

Required qualifications

• 7 years of experience in similar roles
• Experience with implementing, configuring, and troubleshooting Kong enterprise API Gateway products
• Proficiency in CI/CD and GitOps integration touchpoints
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
• MBI certification is preferred
