Kong API Gateway Engineer

Job Summary

Supporting the IRS Enterprise API Gateway Modernization and Operations effort, the full-time Kong API Gateway Engineer will deliver product-specific configuration support for Kong, assist with API migration preparations, and integrate CI/CD processes while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Delivers engineering support for Kong configuration, including plugins, routing, and developer portal setup
• Supports accelerated API migration wave preparation, testing, defect resolution, and rollback validation
• Facilitates CI/CD integration touchpoints and provides knowledge transfer and documentation for Government acceptance

Required qualifications

• 7 years of experience in roles involving API Gateway products, particularly Kong
• Experience with implementing, configuring, and troubleshooting Kong enterprise API Gateway products
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
• Preferred MBI certification
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required
