Job Summary
To define manufacturing processes for ultra-large, safety-critical metal components, the remote Lead Metallurgical Process Engineer will manage process design from feedstock materials to raw-forged components while collaborating with project teams and technical partners.
Key responsibilities
- Define process flow for melting, casting, forging sequences, and heat treatment of ultra-large forgings
- Study and challenge existing best practices in world-class forging facilities to improve quality and efficiency
- Develop forging process models and identify opportunities for capital and energy consumption improvements
Required qualifications
- 7-15 years of experience in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or mechanical engineering focused on metal casting and forming
- Deep understanding of homogenization, impurity removal, and grain structure formation during large ingot casting
- Expertise in thermomechanics of open-die forging and the relationship between forging parameters and mechanical properties
- Experience in large-scale metal forming or steelmaking processes with a focus on process optimization
- Demonstrated ability to develop novel process solutions based on fundamental understanding rather than precedent
