Linguist - Romani

Job Summary

Supporting sensitive law enforcement efforts, the part-time Linguist - Romani will perform real-time and recorded transcription from Romani to English, ensuring accurate documentation and communication of pertinent information to law enforcement personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Listen to and transcribe live or recorded communications in Romani, producing accurate written products
• Maintain a master list of slang terms and codes relevant to the project while communicating essential information to law enforcement in a timely manner
• Utilize specialized software and tools to ensure consistency and accuracy in transcriptions and translations

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one year of translation experience in Romani
• Knowledge of Romani colloquialisms, slang terms, and regional expressions
• Ability to achieve a score of 3 or better on a third-party language assessment in English and Romani
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
