Machine Learning Engineer

Job Summary

To support the Environmental Modeling Center, the full-time remote Machine Learning Engineer will assist in developing AI-based systems for real-time weather analysis, focusing on data assimilation and improving forecast quality.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive review of AI-based data assimilation methodologies and communicate findings to inform the development of AI-RTMA approaches
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define product requirements for AI-RTMA, including configuration and data formats for operational evaluation
• Design and maintain data pipelines for AI-RTMA training, validation, and testing, integrating diverse observational datasets

Required qualifications

• Experience developing AI-based systems applied to geophysical systems
• Proficiency with AI frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with earth observation data
• Practical experience utilizing High Performance Computers (HPCs) and GPUs
• Experience working in a UNIX environment with advanced scripting languages
