Job Summary
To support accurate and compliant claim submission, the full-time remote Maryland Licensed Coding Specialist will review and code medical record documentation for lower complexity hospital outpatient services, primarily focusing on Clinic and Emergency Department accounts.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, regulations, and hospital policies while resolving routine coding edits and claim issues
- Collaborate with providers and departments to clarify documentation and address missing or incorrect charges
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in health information management, medical coding, or a related field
- Active approved coding credential from AAPC or AHIMA upon hire
- Successful completion of Outpatient Coding Specialist I diagnosis and CPT coding pre-employment assessment upon hire
- Preferred coding experience
- Knowledge of coding standards, payer requirements, and regulatory changes
