Massachusetts Licensed Business Counsel

Job Summary

Serving as a key legal partner, the full-time Massachusetts Licensed Business Counsel will provide practical legal advice, navigate regulatory compliance, and manage commercial transactions for Cengage Work's workforce skills and career training business in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a strong understanding of Cengage Work's products and business models while advising on legal and regulatory considerations
• Advise on federal and state regulatory frameworks impacting workforce education and training, and collaborate with teams to mitigate legal risks
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements supporting Cengage Work offerings, while providing legal guidance for transaction strategy and execution

Required qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership
• 4-7 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house setting
• Experience advising business teams on complex legal issues to support strategic objectives
• Strong analytical skills with a practical, business-oriented approach to risk management
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal projects across multiple stakeholders
