Mechanical Field Inspector

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring compliance with freight car construction and maintenance standards, the full-time Mechanical Field Inspector will conduct inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews remotely, partnering with various teams to support repair execution and customer issue resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Perform physical inspections of freight cars to assess condition and compliance with applicable standards
• Lead contract repair shop audits and joint lease return inspections, allocating maintenance responsibilities as needed
• Provide technical guidance and support for customer issue resolution related to mechanical findings

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 5 or more years of freight car inspection and maintenance experience
• Thorough knowledge of AAR Field and Office Manuals and relevant standards
• Strong background in freight car construction and repair shop practices
• Valid U.S. driver's license and passport required for travel to Canada and Mexico
