Media Relations Specialist

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Media Relations Specialist to join the Communications team remotely, this role will manage media relations by soliciting customer stories, drafting press releases, pitching crime stories to news outlets, and building relationships with reporters and public sector customers.

Key responsibilities

• Solicit and develop stories from customers while drafting and pitching press releases to media outlets
• Support local city press conferences and maintain relationships with reporters and public sector stakeholders
• Respond to media inquiries and secure a high volume of positive press coverage each week

Required qualifications

• 4-6 years of public relations experience, either at an agency or in-house, preferably in a high-growth tech environment
• Direct experience in engaging with reporters and public sector employees, particularly in law enforcement
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with familiarity in press release and media pitch writing
• Strong organization and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
