Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary

To support the financial operations of a surgery center, the part-time Medical Billing Specialist will manage billing processes, ensure accurate coding of medical records, and follow up on patient accounts for collections in a remote setting within the Charlotte area.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records for accuracy and assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes
• Oversee all billing processes, including primary and secondary claims, and handle denials and appeals
• Monitor and ensure successful transmission of claims to clearinghouses and resolve any issues with vendors

Required qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate degree or coding certification preferred
• 2-5 years of experience in a medical environment, preferably in surgical billing
• Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes and medical terminology
• Experience with EMR systems and billing rules for government payers
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and possess strong typing skills
