Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary

To support a busy Ambulatory Surgery Center, the full-time Medical Billing Specialist will manage billing processes, review medical records for coding accuracy, and ensure compliance with governmental payer regulations while working remotely in the Charlotte area.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all billing processes, including primary and secondary claims, and manage necessary edits using internal and external software systems
• Review medical records to assign correct CPT and ICD-10 codes, conducting audit reviews as needed
• Handle follow-up on billed patient accounts to collect owed balances and adjudicate EOBs/RAs for accurate payments

Required qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate degree or coding certification preferred
• 2-5 years of experience in a medical environment, particularly in surgical billing
• Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, as well as ASC billing practices
• Experience with EMR systems, including clerical and clinical functions
• Familiarity with governmental billing rules and HIPAA guidelines
