Medical Coding Specialist

Job Summary

Working remotely, the full-time Medical Coding Specialist will perform detailed reviews and coding of EMS transport claims to ensure accuracy, compliance, and appropriate reimbursement while managing a high daily claim volume.

Key responsibilities

• Review claims thoroughly to assign accurate service levels and ensure all billing details are complete prior to submission
• Evaluate documentation for medical necessity and compliance with payer-specific coding requirements
• Identify and correct discrepancies in patient information and billing data while maintaining thorough documentation of coding actions

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Experience as a Paramedic, EMT, RN, LPN, or prior coding experience in emergency medical claims preferred
• Knowledge of medical billing processes and healthcare documentation standards
• Strong computer proficiency, including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing a large workload
