Medical Underwriting Assistant

Job Summary

Under supervision, the full-time Medical Underwriting Assistant will review specific case diagnoses referred by the Underwriting staff for high-risk diagnosis coding and ensure appropriate cases are forwarded to the Medical Underwriting Nurse, all while working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, log, and track all specific case diagnoses referred by Underwriting staff and ensure timely reviews
• Review submitted cases for high-risk diagnoses and select those for assessment by the Medical Underwriting Nurse
• Maintain appropriate documentation and facilitate communication between Underwriting and Nursing staff

Required Qualifications

• 5 years of relevant and progressive experience in the area of specialization
• Basic knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures related to medical underwriting
• Strong medical knowledge including ICD, CPT, medical terminology, COBRA, and HIPAA
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
• Advanced organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
