Meteorology Software Developer

Job Summary

Combining expertise in boundary-layer meteorology and software development, the full-time Meteorology Software Developer will operationalize weather models to generate high-resolution forecasts for power lines, working remotely while integrating various meteorological and AI-based systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine atmospheric models focused on boundary layer physics and localized forecasting along power lines
• Integrate numerical weather prediction models and AI-based systems to enhance forecast accuracy and reliability
• Collaborate with data science teams to merge physics-based models with machine learning approaches and evaluate forecast skill against ground truth data

Required qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Physics, or a related field, or a B.S. with substantial operational experience
• In-depth understanding of boundary-layer meteorology and experience with numerical weather prediction models
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with the scientific Python stack, including xarray, NumPy, and pandas
• Experience with gridded data formats such as GRIB2, NetCDF, or Zarr
• U.S. citizenship due to ITAR regulations and Government contract requirements
